Samsara built the first live streaming AI dash camera to help improve fleet safety, protect drivers and lower costs. The product was so successful, it became Samsara’s second largest revenue stream.
The CM11 was the first iteration of the dash camera series and its initial architecture inspired the followed iterations of the CMX2 and the CM3X.
I managed the HW team to develop improvements on the CM series. We addressed reliability failures, explored thermal dissipation solutions and established strategies to mitigate supply chain risks during unprecedented supply issues.
The CM3X device put AI computing on the edge. This strategically allowed the device to process images onboard and lower the overall data transmission and costs.
The result was a powerful high resolution dash camera with a modular architecture to allow for outward-only or outward-inward facing camera models.
The CM3X continues to be a huge success for Samsara, driving a large part of their revenue and business retention.
