Aether Cone
Before Amazon Alexa and “Hey Google”, there was Cone. The smart speaker which learned your musical preferences and made suggestions for what to listen to. Aether, formerly known as Morse Project, was a start up in San Francisco which set out to use learning algorithms and a partnership with Rdio (a Spotify competitor) to build a precursor to the smart speakers which have become ubiquitous in our homes.
My work focused on the front grill subassembly, including:
Dial mechanism
Mic array and boots
Capacitive touch center button
Light pipe
Assembly sound dampening
The manufacturing processes used were:
Injection molding
Metal stamping
